Rage/Fury
Anger is a very common symptom in menopausal women and it can be the result of many different experiences.
However, it is often a result of simply not saying what we want to say, or doing what we need to do, or asking for what we need. Most of us have been have been doing that for a very long time, but when perimenopause kicks in, the tension builds (a bit like with PMT) and unless we learn to prioritise our own needs we may well end up exploding at those around us.
I have a theory that this shift is due to a change in the relative balance between oestrogen (which is associated with nurturing, caregiving behaviour) and testosterone (which is linked to assertiveness and more self-focused behaviour).
In addition to this, when we are feeling tired, confused, or anxious we need more support from others. So we can become particularly upset and resentful if the very people we have been looking after seem unable to prioritise us for a change.
No 1. Magnificent Menopause tip for rage/fury
When we say no to things we don’t want and ask for what we do we will begin to feel more resourced, resilient and more balanced in our responses to others.
Instead of constantly overly stretching yourself because you can’t say no, pause for a second to consider what is the best for you right now. And then vocalise that. It’s a game changer.
